DFD-06 Freeze Dryer – 5 Tray, 4–6kg Capacity, VRI-8D Pump

The DFD-06 is the mid-size model in the DFD freeze dryer range, stepping up to five trays and a larger VRI-8D vacuum pump. It suits households that preserve in bulk and small food businesses. Load the trays, close the door and start the program – the unit freezes the food, then removes the moisture under vacuum.

How freeze drying works

Freeze drying (also called sublimation drying) first freezes the food, then lowers the pressure in the chamber so the frozen water turns straight into vapour without melting. Because the food is not cooked, its structure and characteristics are largely retained, and it can be rehydrated later by adding water. Packaged correctly, freeze-dried food can be stored for extended periods.

Storing your freeze-dried food

Freeze-dried food reabsorbs moisture from the air, so pack it promptly in airtight containers or sealed bags. See our vacuum sealers and vacuum sealer bags.
